Spending in the path of Allah

In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful

All praise is due to Allah, Lord of the worlds. May oceans of peace and blessings of Allah flood upon the Prophet of Grace, Muhammad s.a.w, his noble Family and Companions.

Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullah wa barakatuhu to all dear brothers and sisters. As we know the remembrance of our Creator is very essential, the Prophet s.a.w is  reported to have said one  who doesn't remember Allah is dead(not the wording of the Prophet). The act of remembrance is not only limited to Salah, recitation of Qur'an and  reciting the tasbeeh, but cuts across whatever we say and do as well. This brings us to the topic of today i.e spending in the path of Allah. As servants of the Overlord, we are encouraged to spend our wealth in order to earn the pleasure and reward of Allah. Clearly it is stated in the  Qur'an where Allah asked us a question saying: do people think that they will be left to say, "We believe" and they will not be tried? Ch 29:2this tells us that spending in the path of Allah is a trial. One should not amass wealth with greediness and letting the needy and the poor to go hungry, naked and unsheltered. It is part of the wisdom of our Creator that some are poor and others are rich so for the rich not to show their pride because of their wealth and the poor not to envy and pray  for the downfall of the rich except that envy is permitted in two cases of which one is to envy a person who is blessed with wealth and he spends it in the path of Allah such that he wishes to be like him as reported from the Messenger of Allah s.a.w. As said earlier on, spending in the path of Allah is part of His remembrance for  He said: Have you seen the one who denies the Recompense? For that is the one who drives away the orphan. And does not  encourage the feeding of the poor. So woe to those who pray. But who are heedless of their prayer. Those who make show of their deeds. And  withhold simple assistance. Ch 107:1-7this chapter reminds us of how important it is to spend in the path of Allah though we may be praying which is another aspect of our duty. One must trust in Allah, the Sustainer who created the oceans that never dries and the moon and the sun that never run out of light. As He says: Satan threatens you with poverty and orders you to immorality, while Allah promises you forgiveness from Him and bounty. And Allah is all-Encompassing and Knowing. Ch 2:268as one gets wealth he loves that it increases. And by being ignorant of the guidance of Allah may engage in acts that are sinful ways in increasing wealth such as gambling. Let's not feel  that our wealth is decreasing due to spending in the path of Allah but rather increases. He says: And the example of those who spend their wealth seeking means to the approval of Allah and assuring reward for themselves is like a garden on a high ground which is hit by a down pour - so it yields its fruits in double. And even if it is not hit by a down pour, then a drizzle is sufficient. And Allah, of what you do, is seeing Ch 2:265. As part of the exhortations in Zabura(the psalms) it is said:I wonder for the one who is sad over the decrease in his wealth while he is not sad over the decrease in his lifethe wealth we amass will one day be of benefit to us in the hereafter or vice versa that's why we need to spend in the path of Allah for life is short no matter  how long we may live, we will surely die.

In encouraging us to spend on His path, Allah says: And hasten to forgiveness from your Lord and a garden i.e Paradise as wide as the heavens and earth, prepared for the righteous. Who spend in the cause of Allah during ease and hardship and who restrain anger and who pardon the people - and Allah loves the doers of good Ch 3:133-134

Fear of decrease in wealth is the whispering of Satan but one should also remember the example the Prophet s.a.w gave to his companion i.e sheep is the most consumed in comparison to dogs yet the sheep increases in number day in day out than the dogs, telling us that, the more we spend in the path of Allah is the more our wealth increases, trust Allah.

Let's invest in our hereafter more than our world here by building mosques, sheltering the needy, clothing the naked   feeding the hungry and many more. Remember we shall account for what we used our wealth for and importantly how we attained such wealth. Let's remember Allah in times of ease with regards to wealth i.e spending in His cause and He shall remember us in times of adversity, inshaa Allah. Learn from the story of Prophet Ayub(Job), the generosity of our beloved Prophet s.a.w and his selfless Household and Companions and a beautiful story narrated in the exegesis of chapter 37: 50-57 by Ibn Kathir.

May Allah pardon us for any mistake made in this piece of writing, grant us the reward in it and make us beneficiaries of it who will hear and obey, Ameen
